We expect our work to make a difference in the quality of life in our district. To this end, we try to discover what is most important to do and focus our resources for the greatest, most enduring benefit.
Services of the Red Oak Fire Department
The threat of fire and its devastating effects on life and property are of major importance and priority for the Red Oak Fire Department. To address those concerns and to provide rapid, safe, and effective firefighting efforts, the Red Oak Fire Department operates from one fire station strategically located within the community. Red Oak firefighters respond in a rapid and safe manner with occupant safety and rescue of endangered citizens as our most important mission priority.
First Responder Program
Sudden cardiac arrest victims need help fast. With this in mind, the Red Oak Fire Department, through its First Responder Program has developed a way to expedite emergency care to those in need by sending the neighborhood fire truck or quick response vehicle (QRV) to life threatening emergency medical incidents.
Because firehouses are strategically located throughout the county, a fire unit can be on the scene within a maximum time of approximately three - six minutes. This is especially important when a patient is experiencing heart failure or has stopped breathing. Unless medical care is received within six to eight minutes, there is little chance for recovery.
Upon arrival, trained firefighters immediately assess the victim's condition and begin providing emergency medical care to the patient. Now with the implementation of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) program firefighters can administer a life saving shock to a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.
Once the ambulance arrives, patient care is transferred to paramedics who provide advanced life support. Red Oak firefighters remain on the scene to assist the paramedics as needed.
The Red Oak Fire Department has been a leader in providing outstanding public fire safety education at schools and health care facilities, as well as to community groups. Using a variety of teaching methods, firefighters teach fire safety, fire prevention, fire extinguisher procedures and conduct fire drills.
Our goal is to make our community a safe place in which to live and play. Educating our citizens on things they can do to make their homes and surroundings safe and teaching them what they should do in case of an emergency are very effective ways to achieve this goal.
Throughout the year the pay that a volunteer receives is the satisfaction of helping others and a “job well done” by the Chief. Please acknowledge and honor the dedicated men and women of the Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department. These people provide excellent service, support, and assistance at all hours of the day, every day of the year, for nothing more than the pride of doing their job. In addition, we wish to thank the neighboring departments, businesses, and communities that have provided valuable assistance throughout the year. By reading this letter it is our hope that you to will offer your “job well done” to our members and board of directors.
The operations of the fire department are funded in a variety of ways. Many people assume that we are fully funded by the taxes they pay on real estate, cars, and on other purchases they make. While it is true that part of our funding is derived from tax revenue, our operations would not be possible without the generous support of you, the residents of our community.
Through raffles, photo fundraisers and other activities, the fire department works very hard to ensure financial viability. Unfortunately, the equipment we use is very specialized and therefore, quite expensive. As a result, we are continually trying to increase our revenues so that we can utilize the most advanced equipment available when you call on us for assistance. We appreciate the support that you have shown us over the years and ask you to continue your generosity into the future so that we will always be ready to help.
The Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department is truly a community based, volunteer organization. The people who respond to your emergencies from our station are volunteers. They receive no direct compensation from a town, the county, or the fire department. These dedicated men and women save our community thousands of dollars each year in salary and benefit cost that would otherwise have to be funded by taxes.
The Red Oak Community Rural Volunteer Fire Department appreciates your financial support. We recognize our responsibility to provide the best fire protection to you, the residents, through the equipment and training of our volunteers. Most of you know we are a volunteer organization who provides protection from fire, gas leaks, and hazardous conditions. Remember, you depend on us for help as we depend on you.
Every donation our Fire Department receives goes towards assuring that you, your family and your property will receive the best protection should a fire or accident occur in or near your office, vehicle or home.
We are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including holidays. When you see us responding to an emergency, please take a moment to say a prayer for the safe return of all our firefighters, who continue to give their time generously and without pay.
